PAINTING/DRAWING/PICTURE
This is the picture of my son meeting Mickey Mouse for the first time. I chose this picture not just because he is so cute and he is my son, I chose it because it is a moment in time that I will be able to have forever. When the world feels like it is going to close in on me, I have this moment to remind me of what is really important in life. Before photography entered the world, the only way to capture moments like this was to paint them. The artist could only hope that their painting would be interpreted correctly and that it would last long after they died. Paintings, drawings and pictures will keep moments in time longer than the written word.
SCULPTURE
This is a sculpture of Cinderella at Disney World in Orlando Florida. The image on the left is how any adult would view the statue. She appears to be looking down and somewhat sad with the mice and birds as her only companion. The image on the right however, is a view that a young child would have. A child would see her smiling with a crown, from the background painting, on top of her head. This is a perfect example of perspective, and if you look at something in a slightly different way, it changes the entire meaning of what you are looking at.

ARCHITECTURE
Almost everyone in the world knows what the Taj Mahal is and why it was built, but not many people know just how much of an architectural wonder this monument really is.
-The 4 pillars surrounding the building were built at an angle just in case if they ever fell, they would fall away from the building preventing any damage that could happen.
-As you walk through the main gate going towards the building, the building appears to get smaller and further away. As you walk away from it, it appears to get larger.
This building was built in the 17th century, how did they manage to create such an incredible optical illusion like that?
-20,000 people and 1000 elephants were used to build the Taj Mahal
-Throughout the day it appears to change color depending on how the sun hits i

MUSIC
For music I chose the artist Macklemore. It's considered rap music but it doesn't have the violent aspect associated with it. All of his songs are passionate, symbolic and addresses real life problems that a lot of people can relate to, Like drug addiction or self esteem issues, even political and societal issues.
LITERATURE
Published in 1960 and written by Scott O'Dell, Island of the Blue Dolphins is story about a young girl who gets stranded on an island and must learn to survive on her own. This book is actually loosely based the true story of Juana Maria. Since the tribe living on that island shrank to just 20 people, the Santa Barbara Mission put together a rescue mission to bring the tribe to the mainland. In 1935 a rescue boat arrived on the island and placed everyone on the island in the ship. Not realizing she never boarded the ship with her family, she was left on the island by herself for 18 years. The way this book is written you actually feel as though you are on the island with her. It shows the strength and determination of the human spirit.
THEATRE
Les Miserables was written in the 19th century by Victor Hugo. This play reflects the social discrimination that many people endured in that time period. Unfortunately those views are still running wild today. This tragic play tries to open peoples' eyes to the fact that people are able to change if given the chance. But many are not able to change because they are judged by their past rather than who they are as a person.
CINEMA
I chose the movie Avatar because I feel it is a great example of just how far we have come with cinema. Movies like this inspire people to take the next step either in the cinematic world or technological world. It gives people ideas and reveals the imagination or creativity that some people never thought they had.
