PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGY
*Photographic technology emerged in England in 1839
-William Henry Fox Talbot
-Achieved process of fixing negative images on paper with light-sensitive chemicals
-Photogenic drawing
-2 French inventors created a process in which a positive image could be affixed to a metal plate
-Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce
-process called daguerreotype
*The daguerreotype could not be reproduced but the photogenic image could
*Talbot realized the negative image of the photogenic image could be reversed by covering it with sensitized paper and exposing both papers to sunlight. The latent image on the second paper was developed by dipping the paper in gallic acid
-calotype process was discovered
*In 1850s, Frederick Archer developed collodion process which became standard practice
*In 1950s and 60s, colored technology emerged, followed by polaroid and later digital technology
